Fragility is often seen as a state of weakness or instability—a concept that evokes images of fragments that can easily break, of delicate objects that cannot withstand great pressure. Yet behind this fragility lies a deep, subtle strength that can teach us about resilience, adaptability, and humanity. Through ‘Fragile’, I’ve tried to shed light on this duality—fragility as vulnerability and fragility as an inexhaustible source of strength.
I tell stories through colour, especially about the connections between people—whether of love or friendship—which are at once essential and vulnerable, profound and intense, yet so easily influenced and fragile. I place on the canvas, as best as I can and as I feel, a wide range of emotional states, from moments of intimacy, love, and deep connection, to feelings of loneliness, loss, or emotional distance.
I want ‘Fragile’ to be not only an exhibition about fragility in its classic sense, but also a tribute to that invisible power that comes from being vulnerable. In the face of fragility, instead of giving in, we would do well to accept our limits and imperfections, to confront what lies deepest within us, and to grow. (Nora Blaj)
